Re: [Tyndale STEP - Translations] Re: Format for ESV OT notes

This one is working well, David. Thank you. Galen

Dear Galen (& Kate)

I understand that you'd rather create text than delete it.
Here is a simpler macro which will only produce two lines, and will do the bold properly. The previous one produced bold in Word 97 but not in Word 2003 and onwards. I'm hoping that this one will work in Word 2007. It should do the following:

this word<
ESV: word
|or: this
>
is different

(the underlining indicates the hidden text and "ESV" will be in small caps)
I've added a single "or:" line so you can use the formatting. Just double-click on "or" to change it, and double-click on "this" to change it.
When you create new lines, I suggest that you highlight the whole line then copy and paste it, so that you have the formatting preset.

Please tell me if you'd like any changes.

David IB

Paste the following into the macro:

Sub esv()
vCopy = Selection
If (vCopy = " ") Then
Selection.MoveLeft Unit:=wdWord, Count:=1, Extend:=wdExtend
vCopy = Selection
End If
Selection.MoveRight Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=1
Selection.Font.Hidden = True
Selection.Font.ColorIndex = wdBlue
Selection.TypeText Text:="<"
Selection.TypeParagraph
Selection.Font.SmallCaps = True
Selection.TypeText Text:="esv"
Selection.Font.SmallCaps = False
Selection.TypeText Text:=": "
Selection.Font.Bold = True
Selection.TypeText Text:=vCopy
Selection.Font.Bold = False
Selection.TypeText Text:=" "
Selection.TypeParagraph
Selection.TypeText Text:="|or: "
Selection.Font.Bold = True
Selection.TypeText Text:="this"
Selection.Font.Bold = False
Selection.TypeText Text:=" "
Selection.TypeParagraph
Selection.TypeText Text:=">"
Selection.Font.Hidden = False
Selection.Font.ColorIndex = wdAuto
End Sub

Dear David,

I have just begun using the new macro. Actually because each note that I do can be so different from any other, I am still inclined to just do these myself. I have caught up all the ESV poss/prob notes in Ps and Exo so I am going to start new material.

These are the glitches in the present macro:
(1) many notes have two or three of one entry, none of any other:
(2) ESV does not always represent Hebrew in a text critical problem
(3) everything not used has to be deleted, and in doing that I once had to re-record the macro which somehow was changed by my deletions.

Do you think you could write a very simple macro that just sets up the drop-down so that the work is in blue, and the (< paragraph) goes before the first carrier return and the (paragraph >)sign appears before the next word in the black text?

The other absolutely routine operation is that all selected words from ESV will have to reappear in bold on the first line, i.e. "ESV: bold". Could you arrange for that to be done by highlighting the desired words before using the keystroke?

Thanks,

Galen
